New paving means speeding on South Street

Now that South Street has been repaved from Forest Hills to the Monument area, the threat of sliding out of control on the old rails is gone. However, a new problem presents itself: speeding.

I have a confession. I’m guilty of NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard)-ism. My back yard is, essentially, Washington Street and Forest Hills Station. And the issue is livability.

Sixty people gathered at Spontaneous Celebrations for a Cuba friendship night on June 17. We welcomed the 19th Pastors for Peace Caravan traveling through Boston on its way to Cuba.

The irony is palpable. According to stories in recent issues of the Gazette, Jamaica Plain is beset by problems created by the automobile. High-speed roadways negatively affect Franklin Park.
Fire brought out community’s kindness

On June 3, our home on Dane Street caught fire. Sadly, much of the old house burned; the fire was both fast-moving and intense. Needless to say, we lost almost all of our belongings.
