Lifelong Jamaica Plain resident Georgia Lyman will be starring in The Orfeo Group’s upcoming production of John Osborne’s play “Look Back In Anger.” The play will run Thursdays through Mondays at 8 p.m. June 19 through July 6 at The Factory Theatre, 791 Tremont St. in Boston.

Lyman was nominated for the prestigious Elliot Norton Award for best actor in both the 2007 New Repertory Theatre’s production of “White People,” as well as the Lyric Stage Company’s recent, critically acclaimed production of “The Scene.”

The Orfeo Group is a professional theater company devoted to cultivating the work of emerging performers, designers and theater artists in Boston. The group derived its name from the Greek god Orpheus, whose music and poetry charmed all those who experienced it. Lyman is a founding member of the theater ensemble and appeared in its first production, Jose Rivera’s “Marisol,” last year.

The upcoming production of “Look Back In Anger” is the group’s first “OrFREEo Show,” a free-ticket initiative meant to encourage the attendance of new theatergoers and those who may not be able to afford the ever-increasing price of a theatre ticket.

“Look Back in Anger” was first produced in 1956 and made into a movie in 1958. The play portrays a love triangle involving a young man, Jimmy Porter; his upper-middle-class wife Alison; and her best friend Helena Charles, played by Lyman in The Orfeo Group production. Cliff, a lodger, attempts to keep the peace. The play gave rise to the term “angry young men” to describe Osborne and other writers of his generation who employed realism, in contrast to what was seen as more escapist fare.
